Tonight I checked out what appears to be the best acoustic open-mic in the Pinellas county, Clearwater area. The place is called Got Wine and Cigars and has recently moved locations due to their landlord suddenly deciding he wanted to use their space. Ouch. Oh well, it worked out rather well and now the new location has a full liquor license and the location seems to be more accessible.

I arrived rather late (almost 10pm) and watched two groups of musicians go at it.

There wasn't many people there watching but there was enough ~ most memorably an extra loud white chick who was hootin' and hollerin' and screaming out the lyrics of "Hotel California". Yay. Still, the musicians playing were into it and everyone had a nice demeanor and were enjoying themselves. Shook four or fives hands from total strangers, so that's good.

Every Tuesday they have their acoustic open mic and on Thursdays they have a blues jam. That's one thing about this part of the world ~ blues jams are the norm and acoustic open mic's are rare. For me, that sucks big time.

I'll be headed back this coming Tuesday and bringing my guitar and play a few. I gotta get this monkey off my back and get back on stage. It's been about 10 years since I've played in public and that was just one time at an open mic in Hollywood, California. Before that it was about four years since I played at Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. Guess what I'm saying is, I'm way over due. This coming Tuesday is the night.
